Further proceedings were set for March 11 in the case against Travis Mayes, who is charged in the 2020 shooting of Darrell Bateman.
Mayes is typically represented by public defender Doug Moore, but he was unavailable for Friday’s hearing in Christian Circuit Court—he had requested a hearing be set to review evidence and other matters, so Judge John Atkins set one for March 11.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith was also standing in for Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen, who is the prosecutor in this case. Mayes, who is charged with first-degree assault, had been out on bond, but is now back in custody at the Christian County Jail.
He is alleged to have shot Bateman in the abdomen at the intersection of East Second Street and South Vine Street in February of 2020
