The Kentucky House recently passed legislation that would increase the threshold for felony theft from $500 to $1,000.
The benchmark has been $500 for about 15 years after it was raised from $300 and state Representative Walker Thomas sees it as part of justice reform.
Thomas says he voted for the measure after speaking to police agencies in his district.
The measure now heads to the Senate for consideration.
