KHSAA Board of Control renders several measures today

The KHSAA Board of Control met today to discuss a number of topics. The first concerned football and re-bracketing the playoff structure. The Board passed a measure to send a survey to all superintendents, principals and football coaches with one vote per school on the playoffs. KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett says the Board can look at the results in May, but a decision really wouldn’t need to be made until July.

In other action: It was voted that wrestling go to three rounds of post season. The regionals would be held the week of March 8th, with the Semi State round with the top four teams from each region to be held the week of March 15th with four semi states to take place and the state tournament with the top two from each semi state be held the week of March 22nd. Details on how this will take place along with site to be announced later.

It was also announced there will be no two game session events at this year’s Boys and Girls Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena. Each game will be played as its own session. There will be 15 sessions in all in each tournament with Commissioner Julian Tackett noting the goal behind this is to allow the biggest possible cheering system for schools that are competing.

In swimming, the Board voted to eliminate a centralized located state swim meet this year. There will be three semi-state events following regionals with top times from the semi-states to determine state champions.
