Bechler, Petrie don’t expect weather delay to hamper state budget process

The Kentucky House and Senate postponed all of their regularly scheduled days this week due to the snow and ice, but two local legislators don’t expect the rearranged schedule to have a big impact on the budget-making process.

Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton chairs the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee and says the calendar change won’t hinder the progress of the conference committee he’s helping lead as they continue to receive input from departments and other legislators.

He says they’re getting close to ironing out a compromise and getting a bill to the House.

Representative Lynn Bechler of Marion doesn’t expect passing the one-year spending plan to be too tenuous, with it expected to be a continuation of the current budget due to uncertainties with the pandemic.
