Another winter weather system is set to move across western Kentucky and the Pennyrile region could see another round of mixed precipitation.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday for western Kentucky and a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for middle Tennessee. One to three inches of snow and sleet is expected here and a two to four in Tennessee—with a glaze or freezing rain also possible.
During a conference call with area emergency managers Tuesday morning, Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service in Paducah said those amounts will be highly impacted by how much sleet and freezing rain mix in again.
Light snow could fall anytime Wednesday or Thursday, but the time period for greatest risk of heavier snow in southwestern Kentucky is Wednesday evening through Thursday evening.
Higher amounts of snow are likelier the farther east you go in Kentucky and there could be a little more in places like Clarksville and Springfield, Tennessee than in Hopkinsville—if the sleet and freezing rain stays away. Whatever falls will only make already difficult travel conditions worse.
Temperatures won’t get above freezing until Saturday, but Shanklin says next week should actually feature warmer than average weather.
