Capitol police officer who once served at Fort Campbell honored with Congressional Gold Medal

The Senate has passed a resolution to award Capitol police officer and former 101st Screaming Eagle Eugene Goodman, who diverted rioters at the Capitol on January 6th, the Congressional Gold Medal.

Speaking during the impeachment trial, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Goodman was willing to make himself a target to get others out of harm’s way.  The entire Senate chamber then proceeded to give Goodman, who was sitting in the gallery, and other law enforcement officers a standing ovation.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said in the face of lawlessness, officers lived out the fullest sense of their oaths to protect members of Congress.  He said, “I am proud the Senate is taking this step to give him the highest honor we can bestow.”
