Todd County School System Superintendent Mark Thomas has a vision for the tech center on the campus of the high school, but it will require a partnership with Hopkinsville Community College.
Thomas presented to Todd Fiscal Court Friday, saying it’s his intention to begin offering programming for an Enhanced Operator 1 certificate beginning next school year.
The second year of the program would theoretically end with graduating seniors having about a semester worth of college hours already on their transcript and an Enhanced Operator 2 certificate.
Thomas voiced frustrations with HCC, saying he hasn’t been able to get a firm answer regarding if the college is on board and KCTCS has been less than receptive to the Todd School System partnering with the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College in Bowling Green.
He says Novelis and several other local industries are enthusiastic about hiring students with the certifications and he’s also gotten a positive reception from the South West Kentucky Economic Development Council regarding the proposed programming.
