The Christian County Public School System is prepared for any winter weather that may occur, while monitoring the COVID-19 situation locally while in-person learning is in place.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel says while active COVID-19 cases remain low overall, especially for staff, their close contact quarantine numbers are still high—which he calls somewhat expected as they navigate in-person learning. He says they are looking to bring on additional teachers in the middle and high schools that will work with students who are having to quarantine and making sure they stay on track.
It’s their hope that those additional educators would help students not have any loss of learning until they can return to school. With the threat of winter weather this week, Bentzel says that any in-person learning that is missed due to that will be Non-Traditional Instruction. He says in the future, if there are multiple missed weather days, they would look at allowing traditional ‘snow days’, but right now they’re focused on not losing more learning days.
CCPS is currently reporting 20 active in-person student coronavirus cases, zero in the Virtual Learning Academy, six active staff cases and 296 close contact quarantines.
