Trial date set in Todd Co. fatal crash murder case

After discussions of a possible resolution fell through, a trial date was set Wednesday in Todd Circuit Court for the man accused in a July crash that killed a woman on Blue and Gray Park Road.

Billy Jo Faughn of Hopkinsville appeared virtually before Judge Joe Hendricks Wednesday, who set a trial date for March 21 of 2022, saying that the Supreme Court of Kentucky COVID-19 restrictions and other scheduled trials are the reasons for that date.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Kerr informed the court they are still waiting on evidence to come back from the testing lab and are still working to secure an expert that can examine the vehicle involved in the incident.  Another pretrial hearing was set for May 5.

Faughn is facing charges of murder, aggravated DUI and possession of marijuana. Kentucky State Police investigated the crash and allege Faughn traveled 402 feet after leaving Blue and Gray Park Road before striking 71-year old Sarah “Janie” Barrow and pushing her through the wall of her garage.

Barrow later died at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Police say Faughn performed poorly on field sobriety tests and it’s believed he was under the influence of narcotics. Excessive speed was also listed as a factor in the crash.
