YMCA Polar Plunge fundraiser set for Saturday

The YMCA of Hopkinsville’s Polar Plunge, one of their main fundraisers for the year, takes place Saturday just in time for some pretty cold weather.

Coordinator Joe Wilson says things will get started at 9 a.m. Saturday morning poolside at the YMCA and there will be hot drinks and some warm-ups before the plunge itself at 10 a.m.

He says they are asking people to wear masks and socially distance if possible while observing the plunge, though of course people don’t have to wear them if they participate in the plunge.

Wilson says the money raised goes to benefit their many programs, including scholarships and the feeding program.

On Saturday, the day will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with some raffling, snacks and hot drinks, followed by a warm up workout, then opening remarks with the polar plunge itself set to take place at 10 a.m. Kona Ice and Dairy Queen will be on site to provide some frozen treats.
