Traffic stop leads to drug, gun charges against Hopkinsville man

A traffic stop Monday night for an equipment violation led to the arrest of a Hopkinsville man on drug and gun charges.

Officers stopped 29-year old Deante Sharp at East 19th and Maplewood Street for not having his tail lights on and an arrest citation says a computer check showed his driver’s license to be suspended.

A 9 mm pistol with an extended magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition was observed in the floorboard as Sharp stepped out of the vehicle and police say a search of the car revealed ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine, digital scales and multiple cell phones.

Investigation determined the gun had been reported stolen in Christian County.

Sharp was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen firearm, use of restricted ammunition during commission of a felony, trafficking in synthetic drugs, trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
