City of Hopkinsville receives ‘clean’ audit, council approves budget amendments

Hopkinsville City Council heard the audit report at Tuesday night’s meeting and approved a budget amendment.

The audit report was presented by Kerry Fort of York, Neal and Associates, and he says the city received a ‘clean’ opinion on its audit, even with the strange circumstances of financial statements and requirements during 2020.

He says a four-year report the audit provides shows that the council and finance officials have done well at maintaining budgets and providing good fund balances to support the city.

Council approved amendments to both the operational budget and the capital budget amendments—increasing the amount of CARES Act funding received from $2.2 million to $2.9 million. The capital budget now includes funding for renovations to Tie Breaker Aquatic Center, renovations to the old First City Bank building and body cameras for the Hopkinsville Police Department. In other action, city council approved a supplement to the Code of Ordinances, which includes ordinances adopted through December 31, 2020.

Councilmember Phillip Brooks was selected to serve as presiding officer over council should the mayor be absent.
