The St. Louis Cardinals are getting a big upgrade at third base. St. Louis has reportedly agreed to acquire Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies in a deal that will involve cash and multiple players. The league and players association still have to sign off on the trade, as it requires the third baseman to waive his no-trade clause and deferring money. Arenado has won a Gold Glove in each of the eight seasons he’s been in the majors. He’s led the National League three times in homers and is a five-time All-Star.

The Cincinnati Reds are adding shortstop Kyle Holder to the team after a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Reds and Phillies agreed to the trade over the weekend, with Philadelphia sending the 26-year-old Rule Five Draft prospect to Cincy in exchange for cash. Holder was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2015 and will need to stay on the Reds’ 26-man roster the entire 2021 season or be sent back to New York.

The Major League Baseball Players Association is expected to reject a proposal from the league to delay the start of the 2021 season. The proposal was to push opening day back to April 28th, cutting the regular season down from 162 games to 154, but players would receive full pay. If no agreement on a change is reached, the season will start on April 1st.
