Man indicted for Dec. 26 stabbing incident

An indictment was returned Friday morning against the man arrested December 26 for a stabbing incident near the Manhattan Motel on South Main Street in Hopkinsville.

The indictment for first-degree assault was returned against 51-year old John Chambers of Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville police were called to the 300 block of South Main outside near the Manhattan Motel a few minutes before 9 p.m. on December 26 and determined Chambers had been in a verbal dispute with Maurice Catlett that became physical.

That’s when Chambers allegedly stabbed Catlett multiple times, causing injuries to his arm that sent him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

The grand jury indicted 51-year old Derrick Lynn Baker, Sr. for failure to comply with the sex offender registry and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He allegedly failed to notify probation and parole when he changed address and had a handgun on his person at the time of his arrest in December.

An indictment for second-degree robbery and first-degree strangulation was returned against 47-year old Yvette Simpson of Hopkinsville.

A male victim told Hopkinsville police on January 11 that Simpson asked him for money and he responded that he didn’t have any.

That’s when Simpson allegedly grabbed the handicapped victim and threw him from his chair to the ground.

She reportedly placed her knee to his neck and took the keys to a vehicle, $13 in cash and the man’s wallet before fleeing the scene in the automobile.

Simpson returned to the area while police were investigating and a search of her jacket revealed the victim’s wallet.
