Flash flooding continues to be a concern in western Kentucky with heavy rain having already fallen throughout the day and more on the way.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 5 p.m. for all of western Kentucky and a Flood Advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. for Christian, Todd, Trigg, Caldwell, Lyon, Marshall, Calloway, Lyon and southeastern Livingston County.
It had already rained 2.5 inches in Christian County since midnight, 2.7 in Trigg County and 2 inches in Todd County, according to the Mesonet sites.
During the weekly weather conference call, National Weather Service in Paducah Meteorologist Rick Shanklin said motorists should be on the lookout for standing water in the usual places through this evening.
Stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations and monitor our websites and social media outlets for any potential watches or warnings.
A light snow event is possible Wednesday, but Shanklin says it shouldn’t amount to much more than a dusting.
Looking at the long-term outlook through the first week of February, Shanklin says it’s looking warmer and wetter than normal—which could spell the possibility of severe weather.
The climate outlook through April is also warmer and wetter than average with a La Nina pattern remaining in place.
