Alcohol is suspected as a factor in a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on South Main Street that injured the driver.
A collision report from Hopkinsville police says 29-year old Preston Thomas of Lafayette had been southbound on South Main about 11:40 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a brick retention wall near 2004 South Main before skidding across a sidewalk and coming to rest.
Thomas was trapped in his car and had to be extricated by Hopkinsville Fire and EMS before being transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for injuries to his face, arms and legs.
He reportedly told witnesses, police and medical personnel that he had consumed 12 or 13 beers while hanging out at a friend’s house prior to driving and said he wished he had called for a safe ride home.
The report says blood samples were taken and a DUI charge was possible following medical treatment.
