Senate Bill 9, ‘Born Alive Bill,” becomes law without Gov’s signature

Senate Bill 9, Kentucky’s “Born Alive” bill, has become law in the commonwealth after Governor Andy Beshear did not veto the legislation.

He also didn’t sign it, but a bill becomes law in Kentucky if the governor doesn’t veto it within 10 days of passage by the General Assembly.

Senator Whitney Westerfield sponsored the bill and says it will require any baby born in Kentucky to receive appropriate medical care—no matter the circumstances.

Westerfield wishes Governor Beshear had signed Senate Bill 9, but is pleased he didn’t veto it.

The legislation has an emergency clause, meaning it takes effect immediately.
