A conference committee of Kentucky Senate and House leaders will look to hammer out the framework of a one-year budget compromise before lawmakers return to Frankfort February 2 and the chairman of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee says getting a spending plan done remains the prevailing priority of this session.
There are still some uncertainties, including the possibility of additional stimulus funds from the federal government and Representative Jason Petrie of Elkton says they’ll be flexible as new information comes in, but will act with the facts they know.
The General Assembly will reconvene in January 2022 during the middle of the upcoming fiscal year, so there will be opportunities to adjust then, if needed.
Petrie says legislators from both chambers have given their input on what they want in what’s expected to be mostly a continuation budget.
He’s hopeful to get a budget to the governor’s desk sometime in February—well before the legislature adjourns for the veto recess.
Chairman Petrie represents Todd, Logan and a small portion of Warren County.
