Hopkins County remembers MLK with 39th annual ceremony

Hopkins County went virtual to host its 39th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration Saturday with a theme of “Empowering the Dream, The Fierce Urgency is Now!”

Bloodline of Evansville, Indiana was among those providing musical performances, in addition to Pastor Marvin Hightower, and the Youth Dance Ministry from All Nations House of Prayer in Hopkinsville.

The keynote speaker was Hopkins County native Terrance Sullivan, who is the executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights in Louisville.

He urged those watching via Facebook Live to not wait to act on their dreams or to fight against injustice.

Sullivan urged everyone to look to inspire others with their actions and words.

The winners of this year’s Madisonville Community College MLK Scholarships are Ri’Shay Wilkes and Erica Elliott.

Hopkins County Central High School student Zoe Long won the high school essay contest and Andrew Belcher took second place.
