Kentucky eclipses 300,000 COVID-19 cases with 4,240 Saturday

Kentucky has now eclipsed 300,000 total coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in March of last year, with 4,240 new cases announced Saturday by Governor Andy Beshear.

With the General Assembly having passed legislation to limit his emergency powers, the governor says now is not the time to lose the tools he believes are needed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The governor says he won’t change his day to day approach to the battle against the virus.

Beshear also announced 20 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 2,876. The state’s positivity rate is 12.32 percent—the highest it’s been since May.

Lyon and Hickman counties are the only non-red counties on the state incidence rate map and they both are orange.

Tennessee reported 5,844 new COVID-19 cases and 86 more deaths Saturday. There are 3,221 Tennesseans in a hospital and the positivity rate is 18.16 percent.
