Christian Co. School Board members sworn-in

New board members, along with one returning board member, were sworn in at Thursday’s meeting of the Christian County School Board.

Tiffany Mumford-Brame, Mike Walker and Jeff Moore were sworn-in virtually by Christian Circuit Judge Andrew Self, who wished them luck, saying he knows they will work their hardest to do the best they can for the students of Christian County.

Board member Tom Bell was selected to serve as board chair, filling the role previously filled by former member Linda Keller, with Lindsey Clark chosen as vice-chair.

Students had been set to return to in-person, traditional five days a week learning on Wednesday of this week, but due to a spike in local COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, that was delayed until Monday.  Assistant Superintendent Laura Morris says they are working closely with the health department on getting vaccines to teachers and staff who want one as soon as possible.

In the school system, 802 staff are currently signed up to get the vaccine when it becomes available. Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they hope to have an update by noon Friday about if students will return to school on Monday or if they will continue with Non-Traditional Instruction. He did tell the board that the numbers ‘don’t look good’ at the moment, with a high number of staff who either have COVID-19 or who are direct contacts of someone who has it.
