HPD investigating early morning assault, stabbing

Hopkinsville police are investigating an early morning assault and stabbing incident.

Officers were notified a few minutes before 2 a.m. about an injured man lying on North Elm Street near Means Avenue and found 30-year old Derick Willingham of Hopkinsville in a pool of blood with serious trauma to his head and face, according to the report.

He was taken by EMS to an area hospital.

About a minute after that call, officers were dispatched to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center Emergency Room, where 31-year old Devan Matlock of Hopkinsville had arrived with a stab wound that’s described as minor on the police report.

No suspects are named on either report and anyone with information on the incidents should call Crime Stoppers at 270-887-TIPS.
