The start date for Christian County Public School students to return to in-person instruction will be delayed to January 11, due to a spike in local COVID-19 cases.
According to a news release from CCPS Spokesperson John Rittenhouse, students—except for those enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy— had been set to return on Wednesday, but will now return on Monday. Superintendent Chris Bentzel says the change in plans is due to an ‘unprecedented’ spike in both positive cases and hospitalizations in the community.
He says Jennie Stuart Medical Center is at full-capacity and then some for COVID-19 positive patients, so they felt it was in everyone’s best interest to give them time to balance out.
Bentzel says they will reevaluate the situation come Friday and make any further decisions then about return to in-person—they remain set on bringing students back.
Students will continue with non-traditional instruction the remainder of the week, January 6th through the 8th. Each school will maintain its regular meal schedule during NTI and will distribute 3-meal bundles daily from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
