Jan 11 severe weather outbreak was top 2020 weather story in region

The top three weather stories of 2020, as ranked by the National Weather Service in Paducah, all affected the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky.

Last winter was abnormally warm and lacked snow and Meteorologist Rick Shanklin says on the same night tornadoes killed numerous people in middle Tennessee, an EF1 tornado touched down in north Christian County on the evening of March 2.

The number one story was the severe weather outbreak of January 11 that caused significant damage to Ruff Park and the Christian County Senior Center.

High temperatures are forecast to be in the 40’s and lows in the lower 30’s and upper 20’s this week and Shanklin says near normal temperatures and below normal precipitation is in the extended outlook.

Shanklin noted 2020 was wetter than normal across almost the entire region.
