Early morning traffic stop, foot pursuit ends with arrest

A traffic stop early Sunday morning at South Clay and East Fourth Street in Hopkinsville led to a foot pursuit and an arrest a passenger on multiple charges.

Hopkinsville police Sgt. Rico Rodriguez stopped the vehicle for driving without headlights and an arrest citation says a passenger, 49-year old Birldanstun Foxworth of Nashville, fled on foot while a computer check was being conducted on his driver’s license information.

A foot pursuit and struggle ensued, with Foxworth eventually taken into custody. A search of his person allegedly revealed crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Sgt. Rodriguez sustained injuries to his hand, wrist and knee during the pursuit and struggle, according to the report.
