Ky. reports new COVID-19 cases over three days, 68 new deaths

Christmas has come and gone for another year, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is thanking Kentuckians for changing up traditions in an effort to be health and safe this year.

In a large update that included Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the governor announced 764 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, with 1,803 cases reported for Friday and 2,742 reported for Thursday.  Over those three days, 68 more Kentuckians reported died due to COVID-19, bringing the overall total since the pandemic began up to 2,534.  Governor Beshear says that number is truly heartbreaking, saying one piece of good news is the positivity rate dropped to 8.04 percent.

He says, “That means our sacrifices are making a difference.  Thank you for doing the holidays differently this year to protect each other.  Let’s keep working hard so we don’t have more days like today where we have to announce we’ve lost so many.”

Dr. Steven Stack thanked people for finding new ways to celebrate Christmas, saying those sacrifices are appreciated and a gift of kindness to your loved ones and neighbors.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported for two days of cases, which totaled 9,230 new COVID-19 cases, along with five new deaths.  That brings the death toll in the Volunteer State up to 6,436.
