Fewer vehicles are on Kentucky roads this year because of the pandemic, but there have actually been more fatalities than in 2019.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King says excessive speed has been a factor in many of the fatal accidents this year, as motorists have more open highway with fewer drivers clogging the roads.
Slow down if you’re traveling for Christmas and Trooper King also reminds to make plans for a safe ride home if you plan to consume alcohol at a celebration.
Trooper King says a majority of victims killed in motor vehicle collisions in 2020 were not wearing a seat belt.
He says troopers will be visible in high-traffic areas that see a lot of collisions this week and will be ready to stop anyone making roads less safe.
