Christmas Day looks to be dry, very cold

It’s looking less and less likely western Kentucky will have a white Christmas, but it will be very cold by the end of the week.

Christine Wielgos with the National Weather Service in Paducah says rain will move into the area Wednesday and could briefly change over to light snow that night, but no significant accumulations are expected.

The big story will be cold left behind on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and Wielgos says temperatures will struggle to get to freezing.

The cold snap won’t last too long, with temperatures returning to about normal by the weekend.

Forecasters are expecting January to be a little warmer than normal, but Wielgos stressed that doesn’t mean there won’t be episodes of wintry weather.
