Kentucky gained 3,179 new COVID-19 cases from Thursday to Friday, with Governor Andy Beshear cautioning people to be extra-cautious during the holiday season.
The overall total of cases in the state is at 237,190, and the positivity rate increased slightly up to 8.59 percent. Governor Beshear says, “Christmas is probably my favorite day of the year, and I know we all want to celebrate the way we usually do, but this year we need to do things differently. With vaccines arriving this week, we can see the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Now we just need everyone to keep doing their part to protect one another.”
Twenty-eight more Kentuckians have died, including a 90-year-old man from Marshall County, putting the death toll at 2,344.
Christian, Trigg, Todd and surrounding counties are all still listed as ‘red’ on the state incidence rate map.
