Sources say the Cleveland Indians are planning to announce this week they will rebrand their nickname for the 2022 season. The team is expected to abandon the Indians’ nickname in 2021, similar to the Washington Football Team’s move this year. The club would then spend the year consulting with the public, fans, and marketing firms to create a new identity. Founded in 1900 as the Cleveland Lake Shores, the team was also known as the Bluebirds, Blues, Broncos, and Napoleons or Naps before settling on Indians in 1915.
