The Christian County Literacy Council is working to reach students even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, and their Friday Fun Readings will continue through the holiday.
Early literacy and generating a love of reading is important for children of all ages, so the Literacy Council will have virtual readings on their Facebook where families can view them safely together. Director Francine Giltner says reading with young children can really set them up for success later in life, through school and even further.
She says it’s about more than just a love of reading—a lot of children learn their shapes, colors and more through reading with their family members.
The Friday Fun Readings take place at noon each Friday, and can be viewed at later times on the Literacy Council Facebook page. Giltner says this is just one of many ways they want to reach out to the community.
The book read this Friday will be “Twenty Things to Do at Christmas in Christian County”. The Literacy Council will be hosting a Breakfast with Santa event next week, with breakfast kits available for pick up at First Presbyterian Church from 2 pm. until 4 p.m. on Thursday and the virtual breakfast taking place Saturday.
