Bond motion under consideration for Oak Grove murder suspect

One of two suspects accused in the 2016 murder of 19-year old De’Andre Palmer in Oak Grove is seeking to have his $1 million bond reduced.

Attorney Peyton Wilson is now representing Leonardo Miller and noted the pre-trial services report indicates him as low risk to not show up for his court dates, should he be released.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling noted the seriousness of the charges and invoked the recent Marsy’s law constitutional amendment for crime victims’ rights while noting that Palmer’s family is opposed to any reduction.

Miller’s mother testified that she’s willing to put equity in her Oak Grove home up as part of a hybrid bond, should that be granted as an option. She said Miller could stay in her home while awaiting trial.

Judge John Atkins told Wilson to provide documentation on the property and what would be used as bond and he will take the motion under advisement.

Arrest warrants for Miller and Deqavion James allege they fatally shot Palmer in July of 2016. Police say they took cash and other items from Palmer’s pockets before putting his body in a closet. Palmer’s body was later moved from the residence and it was discovered a few days later by an Oak Grove police officer near Ghost Bridge on Carter Road.
