COVID-19 may change some things about the ceremony, but the Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee will remember the 248 Fort Campbell soldiers and eight crew members that were killed in a plane crash in 1985 in Gander, Newfoundland.

This will be the 35th anniversary of the day the impacted families in Hopkinsville, Fort Campbell and Gander forever, and Director of Military Affairs Mona Nair says the ceremony will take place Saturday at 12:12 p.m. with several guest speakers.

She says families are traveling from all over to participate, so they are encouraging face masks to be worn and social distancing to be observed as much as possible.

The ceremony will be aired virtually on the Military Affairs Committee Facebook page, with Nair saying they are encouraging citizens to view it that way. There will be no buses to transport people from remote parking this year, but the right lane of Fort Campbell Boulevard near the memorial park in Hopkinsville will be closed to allow for parking.

Gander, Newfoundland will also be hosting their own ceremony during that day to remember those live lost, with Fort Campbell’s annual ceremony taking place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
