The Christian County Public School System is adjusting to Non-Traditional Instruction while awaiting further news and guidance on recent restrictions set down by the Governor.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel gave an update on local COVID-19 numbers in the district, saying that number of student active cases has decreased to ten, but the number of staff cases has increased up to 20 as of Tuesday afternoon. He believes that shows that in-person instruction did benefit the staff, as they were in an environment that encouraged strict guidelines.
He says the plan as of now is for students to return to in-person instruction on January 4, but if something changes they intend to be ready to return as soon as possible.
Elementary schools students would be allowed to return to in-person instruction on December 7 if the county was ‘orange’ on the state incidence rate map, but Bentzel says he doesn’t see that happening in time to make that decision.
Bentzel is encouraging not just students and staff to do what needs to be done to return to in-person instruction, but the community as a whole—he would like to see several metrics come down to do so safely, such as the incidence rate, hospital rates and the amount of active cases in the community.
There will be an update on the transition to NTI and how it’s going, along with any plans about returning to in-person instruction, at the December 17 meeting of the Christian County School Board.
