EDC receives ‘clean’ audit, unemployment down in region

The South West Kentucky Economic Development Council heard their yearly audit report at Monday’s meeting and unemployment has decreased in the region.

The EDC received a ‘clean’ opinion on the audit, which Jaime Petersen with Calhoun and Company says is what you would want to receive on your audit and shows no discrepancies were found during the audit.

Executive Director Carter Hendricks says they continue to work in the region to get economic development projects underway or completed, such as the new spec building and a walking trail in Guthrie.  He says the Interstate 24 industrial connector remains of vital importance and people can actually give feedback to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet about that now.

Unemployment in Christian County is at six percent, down from 8.5 percent a month ago—Todd County is at 3.8 percent and Trigg County is at 5.6 percent, both a decrease from this time last month.  Hendricks says that’s a good sign of recovery in the region, and they hope to see those numbers not increase as the pandemic continues and the future remains uncertain.
