Springfield woman shot Friday dies from injuries, charges to be upgraded against suspect

The woman shot in her Robertson County, Tennessee home early Friday morning has died from her injuries.

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Department says 46-year old Melanie Dempsey died and detectives are working with the District Attorney’s Office to upgrade charges against 38-year old Robert Mitchell, who remains in custody.

Mitchell also allegedly shot a 15-year old girl in the home on the wrist and her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The shooting reportedly happened during a domestic altercation between Mitchell and Dempsey, with police saying all three individuals lived in the home on Boyd Holland Road in Springfield.
