Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear urged people to be safe this Thanksgiving as he announced 2,690 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday.
That brings the overall total of cases up to 162,838 since the pandemic began, and the positivity rate is now up to 8.82 percent—Governor Beshear says hospitals across the nation are quickly becoming overwhelmed, and it can happen here in Kentucky if the spread isn’t brought under control.
He reminded people that although the older generations are the most vulnerable, as are those with underlying health conditions, even healthy people can deal with long-lasting affects.
Seventeen more Kentuckians have died, bringing that total now at 1,809. The governor says they hope to see a slowing of the virus in the coming week or so, hopefully showing that the new restrictions are being effective. He asks people to comply as much as possible, to have a significant impact on the number of deaths and cases that are being reported.
Christian, Todd, Trigg and all of western Kentucky still remain in the red—in fact, there are four of Kentucky’s 120 counties that are not in the ‘red’ or critical spread zones.
The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 1,204 new COVID-19 cases there, along with 73 new deaths. The positivity rate in the Volunteer State is at 17.99.
