The familiar sound of bells will soon fill the air as you go about your shopping—as the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign kicks off this weekend.
Speaking with the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville, Alisa Barton with the Salvation Army says they’ve been impacted by the pandemic just like everyone else, so the bell ringing campaign is more important than ever this year. She says luckily they didn’t have to shut down any of the services that people depend on, but things have been difficult.
Barton says their shelter was briefly closed to the public back in March, but after an eye opening experience, they worked to make the shelter open 24/7, and it has been ever since.
Captain Jose Marquez say red kettles and bell ringers will be out this weekend and through December, all in the effort of raising money for those services and to help those in need.
Anyone interested in volunteering to be a bell ringer or in other ways, call the Hopkinsville Salvation Army at 270-885-9633. The ringers will be located at several different locations across the city and all donations, no matter the size, are always welcome.
