Like everything else, the Hopkinsville Fire Department’s Christmas for Kids program is having to operate differently this year due to the pandemic.
Since 1996, Hopkinsville Fire and EMS has collected items outside of Wal-Mart Supercenter and distributed the donations with a community Christmas party for parents and their children. This year, HFD is asking local businesses and residents to “adopt” families by claiming a spot on the Christmas for Kids virtual angel tree.
A total of 50 families, chosen by Hopkinsville’s Salvation Army chapter, can be assisted through the purchase of requested needs, wish lists, clothing items and more. All purchased items, which will remain unwrapped, must be dropped off to the HFD Main Station on West First Street by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14.
Businesses and residents that participate will have their logo or name added to the virtual angel tree on social media.
The virtual angel tree will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for donors; additional donations may be made to potentially reach beyond the 50-family threshold. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Local donors will receive the first names, ages, sexes and specific sizes of each child in their adopted family, as well as precise gift requests and wishes. To adopt a family, call Inspector Chad Sivills at 270-890-1450 or email him at csivills@hopkinsvilleky.us.
