Chancey takes plea deal, gets 10 years for theft and PFO charges

A plea was entered in Todd Circuit Court Thursday by the woman who stole a vehicle and other property from the home of an Elkton man who was dead inside his residence.

Thirty-one-year-old Krystie Chancey entered a guilty plea to felony theft by unlawful taking, which was enhanced with a persistent felony offender conviction, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Kerr.

That plea comes with a 10-year sentence and Kerr says Chancey has another 10-year sentence pending in Tennessee, as she was already on probation in the Volunteer State.

He says the agreement in Todd County is to run consecutively with the Tennessee sentence, but officials there will ultimately make the call on how their time is served.

Kentucky State Police originally alleged that Chancey smothered 61-year old Ted Thompson to death at his home on Shelby Avenue in September 2019 and then used the assistance of 25-year old Russell Walker to steal property from inside the home and they left for Tennessee in Thompson’s car.

Walker has been on the run and his testimony was necessary in a potential murder trial, so the murder charge was dismissed until Walker can be located. It’s possible a grand jury could re-indict Chancey for murder once Walker is located.

Walker is charged with theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the incident and there are now several warrants out for his arrest.
