Mayor Lynch talks development, small business stimulus

Recently re-elected Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch appeared on WHOP Friday and says he’s eager to lead the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and into the future.

Lynch says he’s prepared to work with city council in the coming years, both present members and incoming new council members, and they intend to focus on economic and housing development, and how to get people to invest in their own neighborhoods.

He says the fate of much of the CARES Act funding the city received is still yet to be determined, but a good portion of it—$1.5 million—went to future pension obligations, and $360,000 went towards a small business stimulus fund.

The deadline to apply for that fund is Monday, so Mayor Lynch urged small businesses who have yet to apply to do so as soon as possible.

With many new recent development happening on Fort Campbell Boulevard, including construction of a Popeyes and Jimmy John’s and more, Lynch says it shows that Hopkinsville creates an environment that businesses and industries want to be a part of.  He’s hopeful they’ll be able to keep that pace and attract even more to the area.
