A woman died in a residential fire Wednesday afternoon in Clarksville.

The Clarksville Fire Department was called to an apartment fire on Needmore Road about 2:50 p.m. and pulled a 61-year old woman from her smoke-filled home.

Emergency personnel performed CPR, but it was unsuccessful and the woman died from her injuries.

The sprinkler system extinguished the fire, but officials say the smoke conditions were not survivable.

Investigators believe that the woman was smoking in bed while on using oxygen and that was the cause of the fire.
