Local veterans celebrated at Hopkinsville honor ceremony

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1913 and the City of Hopkinsville didn’t let the COVID-19 pandemic stop them from celebrating local veterans in some capacity Saturday morning.

The honor ceremony was missing the usual Veterans’ Day Parade that typically precedes it, but around 50 or so veterans were in attendance for the ceremony, with social distancing and face mask wearing firmly in place.  Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Chair Bill Chaudoin thanked them all for the service and sacrifices they have made, saying thanks to them, Americans can enjoy a life of freedom.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch urged everyone to thank a veteran not just today but every day, saying our liberty and those who protect should never be taken for granted.

A proclamation, read by Oak Grove Mayor Teresa Jarvis and Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble, and signed by them and Mayor Lynch, was presented to VFW Commander John Brame on behalf of the community.  There were not sidewalk saluters or JROTC awards this year, due to the pandemic, but community members in attendance took the time to thank the veterans for all they have done.
