Oak Grove man indicted for crash that severely injured passenger

An Oak Grove man who allegedly fled the scene of a single-vehicle accident last year that severely injured a passenger was indicted Friday morning by a Christian County Grand Jury.

An indictment for leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon was returned against 30-year old Hassaan Slaughter of Oak Grove.

A November 4, 2019 collision report from Hopkinsville police says Slaughter had been headed east on Russellville Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control at Memorial Field Drive.

His car went off the right side of the road at Sobriety Lane and struck a ditch and rock bed, causing it to overturn.

A passenger, 27-year old Michaela Jones of Hopkinsville, was ejected and had to be flown to Vanderbilt University medical Center with severe injuries.

Another passenger, 28-year old Devin Zahabi-Sutton of Hopkinsville, was transported by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center with neck and back pain.

Slaughter fled the scene and was arrested on a warrant in August. The warrant says a gun was found in the vehicle and the passengers said it belonged to Slaughter, who is a convicted felon.

In other action, the grand jury indicted 50-year old Kyle Wallace of Hopkinsville for third-degree burglary.

A police report says Wallace used a baseball bat to break a window at Key Oil Company just after 11 p.m. on August 14, went inside and rummaged through drawers looking for items to steal.
