LWV to host historical marker unveiling in December

The Hopkinsville-Christian County League of Women Voters is inviting the public to celebrate a new historical marker in town celebrating Mary Edmunds Bronaugh.

According to a news release, the dedication and unveiling event will take place December 5 at 11 a.m. at the Christian County Justice Center.  This unveiling goes along with the celebration of 100 years of women’s suffrage in the United States.

Bronaugh was a Hopkinsville native who would go on to become Kentucky’s first woman attorney. She played a large role in the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving Kentucky women the right to vote—she was one of the women responsible for the creation of Kentucky’s chapter of the League of Women Voters in 1920.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors at the Pennyroyal Area Museum.
