Kentucky saw yet another high number of new COVID-19 cases from Thursday to Friday, with Governor Andy Beshear reporting 2,302, and 10 new deaths.
That brings the overall total of cases up to 117,505 in the Commonwealth, and the positivity rate is nearing seven percent at 6.77 percent, the highest it’s been since June. Governor Beshear says communities in red zone counties must work together to defeat an alarming spike in COVID-19. He says these numbers are truly frightening and while he knows people have been in this fight for so long that it’s easy to get numb to high case numbers, this virus is currently more dangerous than ever in the state.
There are now 80 counties that are labelled as ‘red’ on the incidence rate map, including Christian, Hopkins, Caldwell and Logan counties. Todd and Trigg counties remain in the ‘orange’ category.
Ten more Kentuckians have died, including a 76-year-old man from Lyon County and a 92-year-old woman from Muhlenberg County, raising the death toll to 1,544. The governor’s report also revealed that one of Todd County’s recent COVID deaths was a 38-year old woman.
The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 1,373 new COVID-19 cases in the Volunteer State, along with 32 new deaths.
