A Kentucky state trooper was injured after his cruiser was hit by a semi on Interstate 69 Monday in Hopkins County.
Trooper Ben Sawyer was stopped behind a surveying crew with his emergency equipment activated in a construction zone in the left lane on the southbound side, according to a news release.
Approaching from behind in the right lane was a tractor-trailer driven by 64-year old Charles Treat of New Burnside, Illinois, who attempted to pass another semi that was slowing for the construction zone and rear-ended Trooper Sawyer as he entered the left lane.
Trooper Sawyer was taken to Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville, where he was treated for minor injuries and then released.
Treat was not injured in the crash.
