The polls are open until 6 p.m. on this historic general election and overall voter turnout has been strong in the last three weeks and today.
Christian County Clerk Mike Kem said 23,000 people had either voted early, by absentee ballot, or at a polling place on Election Day as of 3 p.m.—which ties a modern day record set when President Obama was elected the first time in 2008.
There are seven locations to vote in Christian County—the Bruce Convention Center, the Christian County Courthouse, Senior Citizens Center, Oak Grove Valor Hall, Sinking Fork Baptist Church, Pembroke Baptist Church and Crofton City Hall—and Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries says you can vote at any location.
If you still have an absentee ballot that needs to be turned in, Humphries urges you to take it to the drop box in the courthouse today instead of mailing it.
A power outage that affected much of north Todd County briefly impacted voting at the Clifty precinct, but County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan says they were able to quickly get a generator going and things returned to normal. Election results will not be posted tonight at the Todd County Courthouse due to social distancing efforts and instead will be posted on the Clerk’s Office Facebook page.
Trigg County Clerk Carmen Finley reported 836 voters casting ballot at either The Way or the Trigg EOC in Cadiz by 3 p.m., bringing the overall total to about 7,100 including early voters and absentee. That makes a 60 percent turnout, which she believes to be a record or at least close to it.
There’ve been no problems keeping things moving at the Trigg voting locations.
No Election Day complaints had been received by the Attorney General’s Fraud Hotline for Christian, Todd or Trigg Counties, as of the most recent update.
Polling places remain open until 6 p.m. at all locations across Kentucky and anyone standing in line at 6 will be allowed to vote. We will have live election coverage at 6 p.m. on the WHOP family of stations.
