Record week of new COVID cases in Ky. ends with 1,423 Sunday

A record week for new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky concluded with 1,423 more Sunday.

That’s an extremely high total for a Sunday when less labs are reporting. Governor Andy Beshear also reported 994 COVID patients hospitalized, 250 in the ICU and 136 on a ventilator.

There were four new deaths Sunday, bringing that total to 1,423, and the state’s positivity rate is 6.14 percent.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack is quoted in a news release as saying indicators are “telling us what we’d hoped to avoid. Kentucky is in a critical situation. The spread of COVID-19 is accelerating at a dangerous pace.”

Christian, Hopkins, Todd, Caldwell, Lyon and Logan are red on the state incidence rate map and the governor is encouraging red counties to follow guidance this week to slow the spread.

Tennessee reported 754 new cases. Montgomery County gained 29, Robertson County seven and there were three new cases in Stewart County.
