The Christian County Health Department gave an update on COVID-19 locally Wednesday afternoon, and there are currently nine COVID-19 positive patients in the hospital.
There 41 new confirmed cases from Tuesday to Wednesday, raising the overall total in the county to 1,963—of that, 303 cases are considered active and 1,629 people have recovered from the virus.
Amanda Sweeney with the department says they’ve seen an increase in the amount of individuals between the ages of nine and 19 testing positive recently—she says they’re noticing that there a still many people who are wearing masks incorrectly or not at all, and people are still getting together in close contact, thus possibly leading the spread of the virus.
The positivity rate from the Tie Breaker Park testing site is right around 13 percent. Christian County is still a ‘red’ or ‘critical’ zone, with Sweeney saying the health department will always be more up to date locally than the state.
Beth McCraw with Jennie Stuart Health says they have nine COVID-19 positive patients, a few of which are on a ventilator.
Christian County has had 31 COVID-19 related deaths. The health department continues to host free COVID-19 testing at Tie Breaker Park, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
